Annual Porchetta Day

Pasta Girls

Program

Among attractions at Annual Porchetta Day:

  • Whole pigs roasted on spits, continually basted with rosemary swatches dipped in local olive oil, with the mouth-watering aromas wafting through the Porchetta site.

  • The natural pleasure of a banquet on trestle tables nestled under the trees – bread baskets, olive oil and abundant wine.

  • A string quartet providing background music – taking you to another time, another place. The Italian musical theme will continue throughout the day.

  • Coffee will be available from the morning, with coffee art demonstrations and educational segments (“How to become a barista”) throughout the morning.

  • Kids will make their own mini pizzas which will then be cooked in a woodfire oven specially provided for the day. Again, the educational aspect will be stressed.

  • Pasta eating competition.  It’s going to be wild and potentially very messy, but kids will line up to see who can slurp a bowl of pasta the fastest.

  • Pasta demonstrations using the right herbs. Simple ingredients for nutritious meals.

  • Annual Porchetta Day is expected to become a reunion date on the calendar for ex-Gunnedah people, friends of Gunnedah and the local community who can meld and celebrate the great agricultural produce of the Namoi Valley, presented with Italian flair.
